Georgia's university system includes 34 public institutions that enroll 233,000 undergrads and more than 400,000 continuing education students. The state's four research universities and two regional universities have 228 institutes and centers conducting research. HOPE, the largest comprehensive scholarship program in the country, has awarded $1.6 billion to more than 616,475 students since 1993.

Today, Atlanta ranks 2nd in the nation for the percentage of its population with a college degree.

Training

Perhaps more importantly than education, businesses operating in Georgia can receive customized training to fulfill whatever needs they may have through the nationally acclaimed Quick Start Program. The state's 34 technical colleges work with industry to deliver customized training to workers. Since 1967, Quick Start has provided customized training for 39,000 Georgia workers and more than 3,400 companies.

Georgia's universities and colleges pursue partnership between member colleges and private industry. The Intellectual Capital Partnership Program (ICAPP) allows Georgia's public university system to meet a company's specific needs for knowledge workers. Partnerships such as the GEDC Mission, FaciliTech and Georgia Center for Advanced Communications Technology are just a few examples of the state's public-private training partnerships.
